Comments I got a quote from DAS on 8-23 for transport frmo San Diego to Atlanta (Terminal to Terminal) at $706, and it says "Price quote is valid until 09/07/2005". I then contacted them to place a deposit, and the paperwork I was sent said the total cost would be $825. I called and asked what the deal was, and I was told there was a $50 Fuel Surcharge they had just added. I responded that the difference was more than $50 ($119 to be exact), and was told I would be sent a new form with a reduced price, but it would not be the $706 I was previously quoted. I protested because the 'Quote' said it was valid until 9-7, and on 8-26 they're already changing their 'Quote? I thought that was the whole purpose of getting a 'Quote'? Anywho, since I never heard from them, and the perceived 'Bait-and-Switch' move irritated me, I went with Able Auto Transport. They quoted me $749 for Door-to-Door service, and they picked the car up two days after placing a deposit, and had it deilvered 5 days after that.
I was really hoping for better service from DAS, as they had come very very highly recommended from some other local vehicle owners.

Comments DAS did a GREAT job. My car arrived several days early and - this is important - DAS owns their own trucks and runs a huge business. Since auto shipping is filled with scammers, I wisely chose to go with a big player. The way they run their business is different, but preferable. They contract with a bunch of towing companies to serve as terminals. They then run many, many trucks on a circuit stopping by terminals. The downside is that your vehicle may sit in the terminal for a while before it gets going. That's what happened to mine. The upside is that they are MUCH, MUCH faster once they get going. Why? Because their trucks don't have to stop by individual's houses, which can take a very long time if there is a problem or if the person isn't home. Instead, their trucks zoom accross the country (oh and the online tracking is way cool) and only stop at terminals, where the car is unloaded quickly. You can either pick up at the terminal (as I did) or you can have them deliver it, although really it is the towing company that handles that last leg of the trip.
Most dissatisfied people complain about the car sitting in the terminal for too long. That is true, but once it gets going, it is much faster.
I wouldn't use anybody other than DAS. They are a solid, huge business.
Good luck!
Carlos

Comments Background - on 4/10/04, I purchased a car(convertible)on eBay. On 4/15/04 I contacted DAS(Dependable auto shippers)as they are listed on eBay’s web site as a recommended service.

From day one I had problems with DAS. I placed a shipping order over the phone and paid via my credit card. After I placed the order I received a contract form to return via my work e-mail which activates the agreement. I did not however receive any contract detail. I called DAS and asked for a form be sent to my email address that would indicate pick up location for the car, delivery location and contract specifics. I did not receive this information so I called again and requested DAS to provide me with the details via fax.

I provided DAS with my work and home phone number so they could contact me if there were any problems with the shipping. The car was to be picked up on Tuesday 4/20/04 at the dealer ship.

On Saturday 4/24/04 I checked DAS's web site (tracking system) and it stated car was picked up but did not leave their main facility.

On Monday 4/26/04,I called DAS and was told by a customer service rep that the car was not picked up because the rear window of the convertible was missing and because the car dealer ship where I purchased the car had placed extra parts in the car for my future use.

The customer service rep at DAS told me I was informed of the situation via e-mail. To date I have not received any notification from DAS at either my home or work e-mail which explains why the car was not picked up.

I called the car dealer where I purchased the car and they told me DAS would not accept the car because of the extra parts, which were tightly rapped and secured in the car.

Next I called DAS again and spoke with a different customer service representative.
I asked why I provided my work and home phone numbers if DAS was not going to use them in the event a problem in shipping occurred. I told her the agreement was with me and DAS and I should have been contacted immediately so the situation could be resolved. She said they do not use phone communication to resolve these types of issues as they are handled via e-mail. She said that with the volume of customer interactions that occur it could take longer than a week to get a reply from DAS via e-mail.

She also told me that the rear window missing probably did not cause the car from being picked up and that it probably had to due with the extra parts. I was told that I could cancel the shipping and would not need to pay a $100.00 cancellation fee. However I would have to pay a transport/dispatch fee of $115.00. At this point, with the lack of timely communications I decided it was in my best interest to cancel my vehicle shipping order with DAS.

This shipper’s lack of contact, detailed information, and timely follow up leaves much to be desired.

Comments I purchased a car (convertible) on eBay on 4/10/04, On 4/15/04 I contacted DAS (Dependable auto shipping) which eBay imply's endorsement as they do not list any other transport company's on their site. I strongly recommend that eBay provide alternate shippers to choose from when purchasing a car or least refer to this site for appropriate feedback on shippers.

From day 1 I had problems with DAS. The first day I ordered the shipping I received a contract agreement form from DAS which provided no detail. I called DAS and asked for a copy of a form be sent to my email address that would indicate place of pick up for car and delivery and contract specifics. She told me to refer to the contract and I told her I did not recieve the specifics of the agreement.

I asked the customer service rep why I originally provided my phone number and e-mail address if DAS was never going to use them in the event a situation occured. I told her the agreement was with me and DAS and I shoud have been contacted immeditaey so the situation could be resolved. She said they do not use phone communications to resolve these type of issues and that these situations are addressed via e-mail.

The lack of contact, detailed information, timely follow up/communications and transport fee charged by DAS when shipping was cancelled in this situation leaves much to be desired.

Comments Overall experience was pretty good. Car was delivered 1 day late when it was expected to be 4-7 days late. My 2003 ford mustang arrived without one scratch and there was no mileage put on the car. Customer service was not as bad as expected. Thank you DAS.

Comments I recently hired DAS to transport my car from AZ to MA. Because my car is
a convertible, I paid the big money (over $1400.00) to have it transported
enclosed, top-load, to my door. Although DAS was quick to charge my credit card and to take possession of the car, that is where the prompt service ended. My car is now way overdue and I have learned that it has been sitting outside, uncovered (in the dead of winter) at their New Jersey terminal for more than 2 weeks. They did a lot to sell me on the value of enclosed transport but never mentioned, nor do any of the documents provided to me state, that when not being transported, the customer's car is sitting outside, uncovered for extended periods of time. Why would I pay to have it protected (enclosed) if I knew that there was a chance that it would be left in an uncovered parking lot for 2 weeks?

After pursuing customer service to ascertain the status of my car last week, they sent me an email telling me that my car would be loaded and transported to MA last friday. After checking their websit today (Monday) I
found that this was entirely untrue, that the car has not been loaded or
transported and is in fact still sitting in NJ. After holding for 35 minutes, I finally got through to a customer service representative who told me that it would be transported "hopefully by Thursday." Not so "Dependable."

If you care where your car is sitting or when you get it, I would strongly
recommend that you find another transporter.

Comments I strongly encourage you NOT to use Dependable Auto Shippers. They were TERRIBLE. They picked up my car and filled out the diagram/report and signed for existing minor scratches. The car was delivered 3 weeks later and the report was not filled out, the driver did not sign it.In fact, I had to chase him down the street because he intented to deliver the car and leave before I could inspect it. Upon inspection I saw the driver's side door of my 1993 Dodge Shadow Convertible was useless. You had to use the passenger door of my 2 door car to get in! They had broken the lock. The driver told me it had been picked up like that in Calif. That was a lie, as my car had been well taken care of and garaged in my home in California and only taken out by my friend so DAS could pick it up.
The driver was eager to leave so I would not notice any other damage. I marked the report and gave him a copy and called DAS, they were not helpful, did not care to return my calls for days and when they did, the claims rep had her secretary call me to tell me I had not bought the extra insurance so I was not covered. Meanwhile, I was never even sent the written contract were it might have said how they did not cover anything and were not responsible for any damage to your car unless you bought the extra insurance. I was also not told when I called the first time that they contracted out to other carriers. Why would you want to use a company like DAS to transport your car when you know they do not care about any damage to your car? They specialize in transporting non working cars by the way, so they probably treat all cars like trash. I took it to my mechanic in NY and he told me they probably DROPPED the car instead of driving it off the truck and that is how they damaged the driver side door of my 2 door car. PlEASE USE another company, you will be sorry you used DAS. I am actually having to transport my car accross the country again and I did my research, there are plenty of other carriers. Choose one that serves corporate relocations. I did. They were only a few dollars more, but I am sure worth it. My car was more damaged in the 3 weeks that DAS had it that in the life of the car. I have owned it since 1996 and it was in near mint condition until it DAS had it for 3 weeks.

Comments DAS solicited my business with a standard internet information page indicating they would be the carrier for transporting my Fiat from LA to GA.

The internet page stated they were the carrier and they were an insured company. No additional information about the need to purchase insurance was provided to me when the phone call was made to contract for tansportation.

A truck was sent to my home three days after the arranged pickup time with no advanced warning. The driver just called and said I would have to leave work then or miss transporting the vehicle.

The car was inspected and accepted by the driver with the convertible hard top secured and in place. I signed the preexisiting damage report and he took the vehicle.

Several days later the vehicle was delivered minus the hardtop, with no
explanation by the driver of where the top had disappeared. Upon contacting DAS I was told they had assigned the shipping to another carrier (OCILLA GA)
and they were not responsible for any loss or damage. OCILLA claimed they
were an uninsured carrier and I was responsible for any loss or damage.

DAS has been deceptive in not revealing they were not the carrier as they represented in their internet disclosure. They also sent a transporter who did not arrive anywhere near the determined schedule and did not reveal that he was an unisured carrier who was not part of DAS.

Comments I used DAS on several occasions with mostly favorable results. However, the last time I used their service there were problems with both the Seller delivering the vehicle and with me trying to get the vehicle. First, the seller was contacted and made specifiec arrangements on when and where to deliver the vehicle. As I recall, DAS wanted the vehicle there by a certain date to meet their schedule. The Seller made the trip to the delivery location but was told that no one was available to receive the vehicle and to bring it back on Monday. He had made specific arrangement with the DAS representative to deliver on a Saturaday morning but some how theat message was not delivered to the receiving terminal. Needless to say the vehicle seller was very upset having to make 2 trips and, out trip expenses.
When the vehicle was delivered, it sat at the receiving terminal for almost a week before it was picked up. I was told repeatedly that it would be the next day on each call. I was watching the vehicle movement thru the DAS tracking internet service.
Anyway, once the vehicle was loaded in Georgia, it only took 2 days to arrive in Tulsa. It arrived in Tulsa on a Friday evening according to the web tracking information. I called the destination terminal Friday evening, Saturday several times and again on Sunday. No one knew anything about the vehicle's arrival. On Monday I called again and was told the vehicle was here and that I could pick it up anytime.
When I arrived at the destination terminal, I was told the vehicle came in Sunday evening; not so according to the internet web site. Some one was lieing, either the driver was fauseifing his records or the destination terminal again did not want to deal with the vehicle.
As a result, I had another vehicle ready for transport in the state of Kentucky but, because of all the recent issues, I elected to seek an alternate transporation company. In my search, I found a company that moved the vehcle very quickly, less than 3 days from the time of contact to arrival; and at less than half the PRICE!
My advice, do not use DAS. They are too expensive, too big to care about an individual, and way way to slow!

Comments Dependable Auto Shippers was great! We had had a problem with another transporter, and by the time we called Dependable, we were down to only a very
narrow window for pickup of the car. No problem! They arranged to pick it up the next morning, and arrived on time. Everyone we dealt with was very
courteous and knowledgeable. The car arrived in the stated time period, with no damage except a loose door panel on the interior which is covered by the
insurance. A very pleasurable experience. I recommend Dependable Auto Shippers!

Comments Customer service was terrible. My car sat for 7 days even
through they said it was in transport. I bought the insurance. My car was
damaged. Customer Service was rude and very unhelpful. I couldn't get a
preshipping report on the shape of my car. (I was having it shipped from
NY to L.A.), when I did receive it after having to speak to a manager, the
report showed the car had no damage, however when I received it, it was
scatched and the windsheild cracked. The claims department has been
helpful. But, I would not use them again. They advertise on Ebay. Be aware
of these shippers. Use with caution.

Comments Purchased a vehicle on e-bay, which recommends Dependable Auto Shippers as a moving company. Made the call and was reasonably impressed with their sales pitch; informative, friendly, humorous, etc. Was quoted a rate within my budget and went for it. A day or two later received an e-mail with their agreement of terms. Didn't quite understand the part about not being liable for suspension and undercarriage damage. Being that this is a Porsche I called them with my concerns. After a couple oftransfers I was told that due to the make of car it will be shipped in an enclosed carrier using "soft" tie downs, so as to not damage the suspension, (nothing else to grab on to under there.) They stated they would "eat" the extra expense seeing that I wasn't quoted that rate. I'll be back when shippment is complete and give a final rating, somewhere around 12-14-01.

Comments Sorry I didn't respond earlier but lost the website. We shipped in September and were very pleased despite the lack of professionalism when talking to the representative. We had to change the pickup date, spoke to the representative, but the truck showed up on the original date. Not really a problem but were a little concerned that they would come back on the right date. We would have been gone by then and the car was at our daughter's house. All was well, they came on time, I followed the progress across the country and the car arrived in perfect condition and a few days early. A good experience.

Comments After a frustrating beginning (not being able to get in touch with our designated agent for several days) the experience turned out to be quite positive. We saved money by dropping off and picking up at the terminals, something I find that other companies are willing to do if you ask them. Our car was actually delivered in half the time, a real surprise to us since online tracking was telling us that it had been sitting in Texas for several days. Not being able to rely on the tracking is a disadvantage, though in this case it ended up not mattering. Our agent for some reason did not answer my email question of how much they had charged our credit card, but in that case, again, it was a pleasant surprise when our statement came and the cost was a little less than that agreed upon. Our experience was over-all positive, but I would have liked to see a more business-like attitude and responsiveness.
